All pets that are available for adoption receive a full medical examination and the appropriate vaccinations, de-wormer, flea and tick treatment, spay/neuter surgery and a microchip. Vaccinations vary by species and may include: bordetella, distemper, hepatitis, para influenza, leptospirosis and parvovirus.
We also understand that certain medical conditions may not be detectable at the time of adoption. Hawaiian Humane offers post-adoption care and treatment (PACT) exams for up to two weeks post-adoption for medical advice and treatment of minor illnesses at our shelter clinic only.
We also partner with VCA Animal Hospitals to offer a free first visit for your new pet that includes a physical examination and VCA will cover up to the $250 on shelter-related illnesses within 14 days of adoption.
There are also dozens of local private veterinary clinics who also offer free preliminary examinations within seven days of adoption.
We encourage all of our adopters to become established with a private veterinarian immediately after adopting.
We have also partnered with our friends at GoodPup for dog adopters looking for training support with live 1-on-1 virtual training.
GoodPup provides private training with certified trainers who teach cues and advanced behavior on topics like crate training, barking, begging and jumping.
