Mahalo for your interest in joining our volunteer program! When you join the Hawaiian Humane ʻohana, you’re joining a community of volunteers and staff committed to providing love and support for the pets in our care.
Current Volunteers
Volunteer Requirements
- Time Commitment – Volunteers must be able to make a commitment of 3 hours per week for at least three months, with the exception of foster parents and other select volunteer roles. After your first 3 months, we ask that you strive to volunteer 8 hours per month thereafter.
- If you would like to support our mission but can’t make a regular commitment, there are many ways to help:
- Availability & Scheduling – Utilizing a scheduling system allows us to anticipate when volunteers are available, and when we need to solicit more help. As we do rely on our volunteers to support staff to care for the animals and to serve our community, it is required to have a regular, weekly scheduled shift. Shifts are typically offered in 3-hour shifts.
- Age – Most volunteer roles require you to be at least 18 years old. Limited positions are available to the youth 8-14 years of age with an adult and youth 15-17 years of age independently.
- Youth interested in getting involved, but unable to make the time commitment, can also check out our education and service-learning opportunities.

Group Volunteer Interest
Mahalo for your group’s interest in volunteering with the Hawaiian Humane Society. To initiate the registration process, please submit a Group Volunteer Interest Form.
Interest forms received between August and October will only be offered volunteer opportunities at PetWalk, our annual fundraiser and community event. Please note that we do not retain group interest information beyond this event. If your group is interested in future opportunities, we encourage you to re-submit your interest form after October.
