All Day
As families gather and celebrations fill the season, more than 700 dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and tortoises are waiting at the Hawaiian Humane Society’s two campuses for a place to call home. From December 19 through December 31, 2025, all adoption fees are 100% waived for every animal available for adoption at our Mōʻiliʻili Campus, Kosasa Family Campus at Hoʻopili, select Petco locations on Oʻahu and offsite adoption events.
The timing matters. With New Year’s Eve approaching, pets adopted now will have a couple of weeks to settle into their new home before the stress of fireworks. For animals already navigating shelter life, these weeks in a calm, loving environment can make all the difference.
Remember, pets should never be surprise gifts. Adding a pet to your ʻohana is a responsible, lifetime commitment that everyone in your household must be ready for. That might mean 5-8 years for a guinea pig, 8-12 years for a rabbit, 10-13 years for a dog, 13-17 years for a cat, or more than 80 years for a tortoise. Involve your entire household in this decision and choose a pet that fits your lifestyle and home.
Not ready to adopt? Give a shelter dog or cat a temporary vacation through our Couch Crashers and Lap Crashers programs.

Did you know?
The average cost to provide the level of care and services that we offer each adoptable animal in our care is approximately $560, which varies widely depending on the needs of each specific animal. This can range from routine vaccinations, flea/tick/heartworm preventatives, medical and behavioral evaluations and spay/neuter surgery to complex emergency veterinary procedures and recovery.
Can’t commit to adopting?
There are ways you can support our community, alleviate shelter space constraints, and help animals in need by being a Couch Crashers or Lap Crashers family, or fostering, volunteering, donating, promoting spay/neuter initiatives, or, if you or someone you know are faced with the difficult decision to surrender a pet, consider the rehoming resources available on our website, like Home to Home.
What’s the value of hosting an adoption special?
Adoption specials offer incentives to promote pet adoption, allow us to spotlight long-stay pets/fosters, reduce barriers to pet ownership, and create more space in overcrowded shelters for vulnerable pets who need us most. Contrary to common misconception, research and published studies indicate that the cost of adoption is not a factor when it comes to responsible pet ownership and a family’s ability to afford a pet long-term. In fact, there is no statistical difference in pet retention or the ability to cover necessary veterinary care for adopted pets between paid fee or fee-waived adopters.
