We will be holding an adoption event for over 30 Waianae Rescue Dogs this Saturday, April 8 from 10 am – noon. Adoption fees will be waived for all dogs during the duration of the event. View our slideshow to see the dogs that will be available that day.
Due to limited space, parking for event attendees will be first-come, first-serve and available in the Society’s front parking lot and across the street at Kuhio Elementary.
In October 2016, the Hawaiian Humane Society rescued over 300 animals from a property in Waianae. Animals were found covered in feces and urine and in overcrowded cages that restricted the dogs’ ability to stand up and turn around. Feces and urine were also in water bowls and food dishes, with rats and mice feeding off of open bags of rotting food throughout the location. Filthy dogs with festering skin conditions, rancid food, combined with animal waste created an overwhelming stench on the property.
The animals were either placed with foster families or cared for by Hawaiian Humane volunteers and staff on campus.
After nearly six months, the Hawaiian Humane Society was granted ownership of the dogs. Below is footage taken on the day of the rescue on the Waianae property.
