Oahu teen writers were challenged to enter the Voice for the Animals language arts contest, a creative writing contest sponsored by the Hawaiian Humane Society as it celebrated National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week.
Over 160 Oahu students in middle and high school expressed their love for companion animals and animal shelters. Poetry, song writing, scripts or essays focused around anti-cruelty, animal companionship, creating a pet-friendly Hawaii, spay-neutering, and more. Winners in each category received $150, the thoughtful book, GAFF! by Shan Correa, and a day rescuing animals and investigating animal cruelty with one of the Society’s humane investigators.
