HONOLULU, HI (September 19, 2017) — Hawaiian Humane Society officials regret to make a very sad announcement: Pamela Burns, President & CEO passed away on Monday, September 18. She had been on a leave of absence from the Society for health reasons.
“Pam’s passion to improve the lives of both the animals and people of Hawaii was unmatched. She was a leader in the national and international animal welfare movement, the guiding force for the Hawaiian Humane Society for the past 27 years and a treasure in our community. We are all shocked and deeply saddened by this loss,” said Bob Armstrong, Board chair of the Hawaiian Humane Society. “The Board, leadership team and staff are committed to carrying on Pam’s legacy by fulfilling the mission and continuing the essential work of the Society.”
Prior to her passing, Pam assembled a leadership team to run the organization in her absence. The management plan put in place has been operational and will continue the work of the Society. The leadership includes Board member Pamela Jones; Lisa Fowler, director of operations; and Allison Gammel, director of community relations.
A Celebration of Life for Pam will be held on Sunday, October 15, from 1 to 4 pm at the Hawaiian Humane Society. Valet parking will be available. Call 356-2222 for more information.
