Middle & High School Contests

Oahu youth can win cash, scholarships and prizes by helping animals in their own communities. Pause4Paws, the Hawaiian Humane Society’s annual middle and high school contest, is an action and service competition.

Middle and high school students are encouraged to identify, strategize and implement a solution for a problem facing animals in their community. Entries can be submitted through video, essay or slide show. There is no entry fee.

Teachers may contact boda@hawaiianhumane.org on ways to integrate this contest into their curriculum activities.

Six winning entries will each receive
  • $150 cash
  • Scholarship to the Society’s popular 2-week Teens4Animals Summer Experience ($195 value)
  • School trophy
  • Pet gift basket
  • Mention on the Hawaiian Humane Society website

All students in grades 6-12 living on Oahu are eligible to compete in this contest. Students may participate with partners or groups. All are encouraged to enter as many times and in as many categories as they wish.

Each category is judged separately. 1 winners per category.
Submission topics
  • Entries should identify and develop a solution for an issue facing companion animals in the student’s community.
Submission details and rules
  • General rules:
o   DEADLINE FOR ALL ENTRIES: Midnight March 31, 2015
o   Entries must be submitted in electronic format to http://www.tfaforms.com/340051
o   Contest participation indicates permission for the Hawaiian Humane Society to use entries at its discretion
o   Winners will be announced during Be Kind to Animals Week, May 3 - 9, 2015
  •  Video submission requirements:
o   Usage must be secured for all footage, music or photography
o   Videos must be 2 minutes or less and submitted as .mpg4 or .avi files
o   Videos must close with the current Hawaiian Humane Society logo and URL
  • Essay submission requirements:
o   Length: 450 word maximum, double spaced
o   Submissions must be submitted as .doc, .txt or .pdf files
o   Slideshow submission requirements:
o   Submissions should be sent as a .pdf or .pptx file
