Humane Society’s Partnership with Mike McKenna’s Windward Ford
On Sunday, November 13, Mike McKenna’s Windward Ford hosted their seventh pet adoption event at the dealership in Kailua. A wide variety of cats and dogs were on-site and available for adoption.
During this event, McKenna and KSSK Clear Channel hosted a Giving Drive where attendees had some fun with the “Donate and Spin” game. They asked everyone to bring a donation of pet food, new pet toy or a monetary donation and spin the wheel for a prize, some valued up to $100.
Mike McKenna’s Windward Ford and the Clear Channel Family of Radio Stations (KSSK, KDNN, KHVH, KIKI, KHJZ, and KUCD) have teamed up to put the pedal to the metal for animals this year. Their special partnership with the Hawaiian Humane Society is aimed at driving pet adoptions. Under the leadership of philanthropist Mike McKenna, now serving the Kailua community for over 25 years, this year-long partnership is giving back to the community. Mike McKenna’s Windward Ford has already raised over $31,000 for the animals this year.
Recently, they stepped forward as a Flagship Sponsor of Hawaiian Humane Society’s October 2 PetWalk and underwrites an adoption fee for one Lucky Dog of the Week at the shelter. More than 90 animals have found new homes through this partnership, and McKenna hopes the total will reach 100 dogs by then end of this year. In addition to his love for animals, Mike McKenna has realized his goal of contributing $1 million to Hawaii schools through his Spirit of Giving program.
Clear Channel Radio has also showed their support as the promotional engine and coming aboard as a PetWalk Sponsor. Clear Channel provides airtime advertisements and prizes at each of the adoption events including Las Vegas vacations for some lucky adopters.
When asked why McKenna pledged its support to the animals, Mike replied, “Local charities need our help now more than ever, and Hawaiian Humane Society is not a chapter of a mainland organization like so many others. The bottom line is that I’m a dog lover and so are all of us at Mike McKenna’s Windward Ford.” The dealership staff is so avid about its love for animals that it has a Pets-At-Work policy. Mike added, “A visit to our dealership will reveal as many as ten dogs roaming around our offices. Animals make us happier and better at what we do. My dog, Hana Boy, couldn’t agree more!”
