Pet Safety for 4th of July

Hawaiian Humane Society urges you to prepare for the 4th of July celebrations by updating their contact information in its Microchip Database and ensure pets have ID.

ID your pet – Make sure pets are microchipped and owner contact information is filed and current with the Humane Society. Even if owners have registered with a national database, it’s important to ensure that the best phone numbers and current addresses are on file locally. Collars and tags are essential to help visibly identify your pet.

Keep pets indoors – The noise, smoke and flames can be very upsetting to animals so keep them safely contained indoors, preferably in a quiet room.

Plan ahead – Teach your family (and your pet sitter) what to do if your pet gets lost. That includes filing a lost report with the Humane Society immediately.  Be sure to canvass the neighborhood with a current photo of your pet and visit the Humane Society in person to search for your animal.

Look out for lost pets –  If the stray animal is friendly and approachable and there is no visible form of identification, you can go to a nearby veterinarian’s office to scan for a microchip. File a found report with us immediately so if the owner is looking for him, we can expedite a reunion.
