Programs for Students For more information on programs for students, please call the humane educator at 946-2187, ext. 206. Shelter Educational Experience. Available throughout the year for kindergarten through adults, the Hawaiian Humane Society offers on-site sessions that help students to develop positive relationships with our animal friends. The program is designed to support the developmental needs of students, providing practical information and academic learning opportunities with varying topics for the different age groups. The program includes a tour of the shelter and can be tailored to the curricular needs of the class. The maximum group size is 60. This free program is approximately 1-1/2 hours in length depending on the age of the students. Reservations are required. Out-Visit Educational Experience. The out-visit program is similar to the Shelter Educational Experience but is presented in your classroom or facility. Also free of charge and available throughout the year, the out-visit program requires reservations. The maximum group size depends on the age of the audience. Community Library Visits. Children learn about animal care and Humane Society functions through interactive discussion, games, and activities. The program is free of charge, but requires a reservation. Learning through Service. Humane educators offer ideas, guidance and orientation on service projects to benefit the Hawaiian Humane Society. If students want to work directly with the animals, they must participate through the Volunteer Department due to training requirements. |
