Paws on the Path Hiking Club

For each hike, bring plenty of water for yourself and your animal. Stay with the group and do not hike without an experienced trailsman/woman who is familiar with the trail. Always carry your cell phone in case of emergencies. In the event of severe weather conditions, remember to check the website or call 226-3872 for updates.

Makiki Loop Trail


Difficulty Level: Beginner
Location: Tantalus Drive (Makiki)
Length: 2.5 miles

Directions from Windward:

  • Take the Pali (H-61 South) and bear right on the Pauoa Road exit.
  • From Pauoa Road, turn left onto Lusitana Street.
  • Take a slight right onto Pauoa Road and then turn right onto Lusitana Road.
  • In just under a mile, turn left onto Auwaiolimu Road.
  • Turn left onto Nehoa Street and then immediately left onto Makiki Street.
  • Stay left after Hanahaouli School on Makiki Heights Drive.
  • Follow Makiki Heights Drive past the Hawaii Nature Center and Halau Ku Mana Charter School and park in the lot on the left side of the road by the covered picnic tables.

We will meet in this lot and walk to the trailhead together.

Directions From Leeward:

  • Take H-1 East and use the 2nd from the right lane to take exit 23 for Punahou St toward Waikiki/Manoa.
  • Turn left onto Punahou Street.
  • Turn left onto Nehoa Street and then immediately left onto Makiki Street.
  • Stay left after Hanahaouli School on Makiki Heights Drive.
  • Follow Makiki Heights Drive past the Hawaii Nature Center and Halau Ku Mana Charter School and park in the lot on the left side of the road by the covered picnic tables.
  • We will meet in this lot and walk to the trailhead together.

This is a 2.4-mile hike up a graded trail with forest, town, and ocean views. Shade varies throughout the trail, so bring sunscreen.
