cats

Apiki
  • Registration No.: 08-7304
  • Breed: Domestic Short Hair
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 5 Years
  • Description: In the Hawaiian language, "apiki" means "crafty; mischievous," and this big, self-assured boy does have a crafty look about him, but probably he is just wondering where his next meal is coming from! Apiki is yet another owner surrendered cat who, while he doesn't like it, is taking things in stride and coping as best he can. He is a large, handsome fellow with grey and white markings. Apiki says, "I won't be any trouble -- honest! I just basically like to eat and sleep!"

Lucas
  • Registration No.: 08-4938
  • Breed: Domestic Short Hair
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 2 Years
  • Description: Lucas was dropped off as a counter stray on March 16th, and has been at the shelter for 10 days now. He is a black and white beauty, with the sweetest little face you ever saw. Very shy and retiring, clearly this kitty needs more time to adjust and come out of his shell. We recommend a quiet home, low voices, and gentle touches in order for this little lotus heart to fully blossom.

Baby
  • Registration No.: 08-6023
  • Breed: Domestic Short Hair
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 6 Years, 1 Months
  • Description: Guess what? Another owner surrender. What is wrong with these people? Baby, a black and tan beauty, has taken it rather hard and is feeling sad at the moment for being dropped off so unceremoniously at the shelter. She is timid at first, but warms quickly and seems very loving. She likes to give head butts, and loves to have her own head scratched in return. This melancholy Baby qualifies for our "Seniors for Seniors Program" -- if you are age 60 or older and can give her a good home, she's yours for free.

Harry
  • Registration No.: 08-5665
  • Breed: Domestic Short Hair
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 9 Years
  • Description: Honest, folks -- poor Harry isn't really "dirty," we just call him Dirty Harry to make him sound like a tough guy! In actuality, Harry is a grey and brown cat with very definite likes and dislikes: he doesn't like kids (or may never have been around them); he doesn't like dogs or other cats; and he sure doesn't like restraints of any kind. Moreover, he's been declawed, so be prepared to adopt an indoor-only kitty who also needs to be an "only child." Harry is a "Seniors for Seniors" candidate, and is free of charge to anyone age 60 or older.

Gracie
  • Registration No.: 08-6905
  • Breed: Domestic Short Hair
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 3 Years
  • Description: Gracie has kind of a "purr-petual" look of surprise on her kitty cat face. Maybe she's wondering how she got from the Kauai Humane Society to here. Well, we're happy to take this large blonde and brown cutie pie in, and try to find a happy new home for her. Gracie is a good girl with impeccable manners, and knows how to use her litter pan properly. Can you show her some good ol' Oahu hospitality by adopting her today?

Shirley
  • Registration No.: 08-3818
  • Breed: Domestic Short Hair
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: Unknown
  • Description: We don't know what happened to Laverne, but Shirley ended up in Cathouse #3, and she's itchin' to get out of Dodge! This striking Tortoiseshell was an owner surrender on February 28th, so we should have her age in the computer somewhere. She's definitely not an older cat, as she's much too playful. Shirley could stand to fill out a little bit (we should all be so lucky to have this problem), but otherwise she is a darling, self-assured little cat.

Are kittens available?
  • Registration No.: NEW
  • Breed: all colors, breeds
  • Gender: M&F
  • Age: 8 weeks and up
  • Description: Perhaps! We may have kittens available for adoption. Visit the Cat House when we are open and meet the kitties. Here are tips on bringing your kitten home.

dogs

Brandy
  • Registration No.:08-5050
  • Breed: Pitbull Mix
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 3 Years
  • Description:This good-looking animal was an owner surrender on March 18th. Brandy is chocolate and white with good conformation and a really soft coat. She is somewhat rambunctious and likes to lead. Also, she doesn't get along too well with kids (or may not have been around them). Therefore, a home without small keiki is preferred. Brandy is Heartworm positive, a disease that is 100% treatable by your private vet. Brandy is a good girl with a sweet disposition and great attitude; she deserves a second chance at a good life.

Benji
  • Registration No.:08-2766
  • Breed: Airedale Terrier Mix
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 4 Years
  • Description:If you wish to adopt Benji, you fit into one of two categories: either you have the patience of Job and are able to train, or you're a masochist who enjoys being jumped on repeatedly! Poor Benji -- such a darling dog, but no manners. He came to us from the Kauai Humane Society, so not much is known about his former life. This good-looking chap is rambunctious, and needs a long walk every day. He may also require some dental work. But, with proper diet, exercise, grooming and training, Benji could pass for Little Orphan Annie's dog, Sandy!

Stanley
  • Registration No.:08-6828
  • Breed: Miniature Pinscher Mix
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 4 Years
  • Description:Calling all Min-Pin fans (and there are a lot of you out there): this darling little fellow is sweet, energetic, ready to go on long walks and play, but is also in dire need of some dental work. Stanley, a counter stray on April 10th, is black and brown, and has a rather pronounced overbite. Just as our own teeth sometimes grow in all wrong, so too did Stanley's and no one bothered to have them corrected. It must be uncomfortable for him, to say the least. Can you help this sweet heartbeat? Take one more look at those big, brown eyes and try telling me that Stanley is not worth it.

Haiku
  • Registration No.:08-5176
  • Breed: Pitbull/Hound Mix
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 2 Years, 3 Months
  • Description:Haiku has a nice, soft brindle and grey coat, with alert face and eyes. She does not get along too well with the keiki (or may never have been around them). In fact, Haiku has not been exposed to much at all in her young life. Therefore, you will need to be patient with this somewhat shy and timid girl, and she will reward you by being your devoted companion. A gradual introduction to new things should help Haiku come out of her shell rather nicely.

Hoku
  • Registration No.:08-2384
  • Breed: Shar-Pei/Labrador Mix
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 5 Years
  • Description:Hoku has star power for sure, but she needs to trim down slightly first! A nice, long walk daily is definitely in order for this 65-lb. girl. An owner-surrender on February 8th, this black and tan canine is Heartworm positive. This disease is completely treatable by your private vet. Hoku does not get along too well with the keiki, and would prefer a household without any. She likes to lead, and is somewhat forward and demanding. Just like a girl!

JuJu
  • Registration No.:08-4679
  • Breed: Pitbull Mix
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 2 Years
  • Description:Jolly JuJu is hard to resist -- she's so darn sweet, but she does have some issues. A counter stray on March 12th, this black and white dog has not been around children, and may become fearful and nip. Likewise, she has not been around other pets, and can become very jealous of your attention. For these reasons, we recommend that JuJu be an "only child." Despite her easygoing demeanor, JuJu is independent and likes to call all the shots. She's a clever and confident canine, however, and a little obedience training should work wonders for this animal.

Ilio
  • Registration No.:08-3320
  • Breed: Shar-Pei/Airedale Terrier Mix
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 1 Year
  • Description:Young Ilio is our featured "Doggy of the Day" for several reasons, not the least of which being he is so darned cute! Ilio, you see, has just not gotten off on the right paw. Picked up as a stray in a field on February 21st, Ilio had some open wounds which will require further treatment. There is an indication of possible hip or knee problems, and he should be rechecked by your private vet. On the plus side, this friendly stray is very people-oriented and quite well-behaved, considering his unlucky start in life. Ilio is hoping you can introduce him to la dolce vita.

Are puppies available?!?
  • Registration No.: NEW
  • Breed: all sizes, colors, breeds
  • Gender: M&F
  • Age: 8 weeks and up
  • Description: MAYBE! Puppies are usually adopted quickly, so be here when we open and play with the pups. If you like one, put your name on our list and meet with an adoption counselor. Be patient -- it may take several visits to find your true puppy love.

Other Animals

Cooper
  • Registration No.:08-7071
  • Breed: Rabbit
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 1 Year, 1 Month
  • Description: Here is a really swell-looking bunny -- coppery-colored with grey tinges in his coat. He has brown eyes and light brown lashes, and he is altogether quite fetching. It is obvious that Copper is accustomed to being handled, as he does not appear to be the least bit skittish. This large bunny, an owner surrender on April 12th, has already been neutered and is ready to be adopted by his new family. Might that be you?

Tootsie
  • Registration No.:08-7338
  • Breed: Rabbit
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: Unknown
  • Description: How could anyone bear to surrender such a dainty and adorable animal you ask? Nevertheless, someone did -- on Tax Day no less, with a resounding chorus of "Toot-Toot-Tootsie, Goodbye; Toot-Toot-Tootsie, don't cry." Well, now is your chance to own this charming teacup bunny with the interesting brown and black coloration -- curiously similar to a Seal Point Siamese.

Jackie & Shirley
  • Registration No.:08-3865
  • Breed: Guinea Pigs
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 1 Year
  • Description: Jackie and Shirley were surrendered to us back on February 29th -- at a time when we were awash with white Guinea Pigs. As you can see, they have been with us for some time now, and we would really like to see these two big girls adopted out together. They are truly bonded and, just like movie bachelors Felix and Oscar, one is messy and the other one is fussy!
