The Hawaiian Humane Society’s foster care program helps care for thousands of orphaned and owned animals in need of temporary care. Open your homes and hearts to help us save more lives. Our training is simple and quick, and you can get started as a volunteer right away! We also encourage families to participate in the Foster Care Program and students to utilize our program for service learning projects. Learn more in our Foster Care brochure.
Shelter Animal Fostering
This past year we placed over 2000 shelter animals in foster homes. You can care for shelter animals who are too young, underweight, ill/injured, or who require more socialization before adoption. All basic supplies and medical care are provided.
Emergency Pet Fostering
Temporary, short-term fostering services are offered upon availability of community volunteers to those temporarily hospitalized, the disabled and victims of domestic violence. The emergency foster program is not offered to those needing assistance due to housing issues, travel plans or awaiting pet-friendly housing.
To be considered for assistance, complete the Emergency Foster Care application here. Applications are also available for pick up at our Admissions Department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Upon submittal of your application through our Admissions department, you will receive a phone call within 48 hours whether you qualify or not.
Please note that services are offered upon availability of community volunteers.
Pets of Patriots Fostering
Pets of Patriots program is designed to provide pet care assistance for military personnel deploying to serve our country. Active duty military personnel who have a pet that needs temporary care are eligible. Ideally, we ask for at least a 6 – 8 week advance notice for foster care requests. Services depend upon availability of community volunteers.
We are actively recruiting volunteers who can open their homes to an animal for 6 months up to a year. We encourage military families new to the islands to volunteer as foster care providers for Pets of Patriots.
